This study of a vase of anemones is full of colour and there is a disposition of space within the flower arrangement. As with all Knighton-Hammond’s flower studies the formality is broken by placing the odd flower on the table. He probably got into trouble as his third wife was a qualified flower arranger and would bring the display into the studio all immaculately presented. The artist used to remove and place a few blossoms adjacent to the vase to make it less formal! The colour washes to the background have the effect of projecting the flower display forward towards the spectator.
