This oil painting of Oxford from a garden on Headington Hill, early evening is in muted colours reflecting the time of day. There is a subtle blending and gradation of tones as the picture recedes into the lighter background as it is benefitting from the evening sunshine. This, like the majority of Knighton-Hammond’s work, would have been painted en plein air. The paint is applied thick leaving visible brushstrokes and thus texture.
