This portrait is of Knighton-Hammond’s third wife, Iris. She is turned side on to the artist and looking over her left shoulder. The clever application of watercolour serves to create the modelling, light and shade and the facial features which gives the likeness. The sitter is looking intensely at her relatively new husband and has a look of contentment. As always Knighton-Hammond captures the inner mood and personality of the sitter.
