This flower study of roses in a glass vase is clearly defined and fresh, using colourful, fluid strokes. There is great delicacy and control leading to effortless ease and gracefulness. Later in life Knighton-Hammond enjoyed painting still life subjects in his studio. He used to breakup the formality of flower studies by having at least one of the blossoms loose of the table.
