This colourful, striking still life is vibrant. The two blue vases contain red and pink roses with green foliage. Knighton-Hammond’s third wife was a trained flower arranger and took control when it came to setting up the flower studies. Much to her annoyance, the artist did not like formality so he would remove a few of the blossoms and place them haphazardly on the table adjacent to the vases. It used to get him in trouble! There is a feeling of real space around the flowers. On the wall behind there is a head of a classical or mythological figure.
