Knighton-Hammond positioned himself at a junction in the road to paint this picture of a thatched cottage which dominates the composition in Styal near Wilmslow in Cheshire. A road sign gives directions. The watercolour has been freely applied but accurately describes the vernacular architecture of the village. Figures by the doorway of the cottage gives a sense of scale. The foliage of the trees, hedges and grass are competently depicted by the artist.
This picture was exhibited 8 - 27 October 1973 at the Knighton-Hammond Exhibition at Stockport Public Libraries
