The Avenue of Trees was in the grounds of Old Court, Misterton, Somerset, Knighton-Hammond’s home from 1940 to 1954. The trees are plain and lime trees and the leaves have the tints of autumn. Cattle are grazing in the field and the lone seated figure would have been John, the artist’s son. This watercolour would have been painted at speed in a very free manner.
