The Collegiate Church of Notre Dame in Eu, Normandy was undergoing restoration when K-H painted it. A hoarding and scaffolding had been erected to part of the façade and a workman can be seen climbing a ladder. The clusters of figures conversing and going about their business are painted with great spontaneity.
The architecture of the church, particularly the tracery of the windows, is well depicted. The composition is enhanced by the splash of greenery in the background with the foreground in deep shadow.
