The clean washes of colour applied by Knighton-Hammond achieve great luminosity in the sunlit façade of the buildings viewed in Rear Garden of The Bull. One can observe the spirited brushstrokes of the foliage and the varying styles of architecture. The figures give the composition life and, painted directly and confidently in watercolour, one can appreciate the technical virtuosity of Knighton-Hammond’s draughtsmanship. The timber framed building is on the opposite side of the High Street and the building to the right is the rear of a house adjacent to The Bull.
