This view of ‘The Village’ Prestbury would have been painted just before or during the Great War. It may well have been painted during a study trip painting en plein air under the guidance of Adolphe Valette, Master at Manchester Municipal School of Art. The streetscape is skilfully depicted with the different styles of architecture and fine perspective. The figures in the street provide movement and scale to the composition. There are signs here of Valette’s influence with Impressionism.
